I have a 2003 Sport Trac XLT 2wd with the 4.0 V-6 and 5 speed automatic transmission. My transmission is bad and being on a budget I can not afford to spend $1600 or more for a good rebuilt unit. I need to know what type of transmission I have and what other cars/truck transmissions I can use as a drop in replacement.

I was just trying to find out what else besides the Sport Trac uses the same transmission so I would know where to look for a used transmission. A few have said that it has to be a Sport Trac to be compatible. Should not be an issue now as the transmission I purchased yesterday came out of a 2005 Sport Trac.

Sorry didnt understand. I thought you were looking for a conversion. Usualy others will chime in and catch the question. The same gen 5 peed explorer or ranger would have been the same. As long as it is the 5R55E.
