I just replaced the exhaust pipe gasket that connects the catalytic converter with the pipe leading to the muffler. Does that gasket expand when it gets hot in order to seal it up tight? I did just read about exhaust putty, should I have used that?

The bolts were rusted so I had to cut them out. Replaced them with a very MacGyver like set up that seems to be doing the trick. I know...

:worthless:

Will try to get some up later...

Technical no, maybe some. If you are talking about the do-nut ring.

Did you replace the bolts with new springs?? They make a kit,. The springs loose there temerance with age. I dont remember the torque spec. What I do is tighten them to where a small gap is still in the spring.

The original gasket was so wore out there was play in the pipe. I replaced the bolts and reused the springs. Seems to have done the trick. Truck sounds nice and quiet again.
