So I'm almost back to normal, other than having way too much to do all the time. I still have one more surgery, but I'm trying to put it off as long as possible. I got a new house, and moved, and am still struggling to unpack in the 10 minutes of free time I have per week.

Saturday, my dad asked to borrow my truck. Ordinarily, NOBODY can drive my truck but me, but I figured since he was trading me his '09 SL63 AMG for it for the day, why not?

Yeah, so... He was trying to do something nice for me. I had these two horrible ugly-ass giant bushes on either side of my front door. He decided to go to my house and attempt to remove them...

WITH THIS:

He tied one end around the bottom of the bush (comfortable in it's place for 13 years), and hooked the other end to my hitch. Apparently, when he went to try to pull it out slowly, it held the truck in place, as can be evidenced by the tire dust in my driveway. Soooooooooo... He decided to back up 8 or 10 feet and floor it.

Physics is a bitch. Isaac Newton knew this would happen. My dad didn't.

New tailgate will be ready either Thursday or Friday, and State Farm needs to add "lack of common sense" coverage to my policy.

And yes, the "earring" is the hook from the end of the strap.

Normally I would say "thats gonna leave a mark", but I think the picture took care of that for me!

Glad no one got hurt, except for your ride. Hope your insurance wont go up!

Nice to see you around, Andy!:D

Thought your Trac had enough power by now for something like this! Guess not, huh?;)

Nobody was hurt. Truck can be fixed!;)

Jerry, he's paying for it. No insurance.

OtherAndy, thanks! And it had enough power to break a 15k lb. rated tow strap. :)

Sadly, no. I did later with a chainsaw. Those bushes owed me and WERE going down. Now to remove the stumps later...

I had old bushes infront of my house. I uesd a chain and did the shatch pull and got them out. That's how i found out where my water line is..........

I figured I'd help my old landlord out and pull 5 stumps from the front of the apartment I used to live at. I hooked stumps to the tow hooks in the front and wrap around the stumps. I pulled 3 of them out with no real problem, well I got tired of hopping in and out of my truck to disconnect a connect to the next one so I figured he could do the last 2 for me so I could stay in the cab. He saw how I wrapped the tow strap around and hooked it to the hooks, or so I thought. He crossed the strap and when I pulled it pulled the tow hooks stamp welds and all from the frame. Luckily my new landlord is a bodyman has the equipment to straighten the mounting brackets for the tow hooks and reweld them back to the frame.

hey andy,

welcome back.

i know it sux, but it was a very minor accident.

at least you didn't back into your wifes car while she was sitting in it leaning on the horn & my vehicle has a backup cam.

btw, your quote that your dad is paying for the damage. he was trying to do a good thing, imo, let him slide.

it's your dad and you only have one. ;)

Glad to see everyone is OK! Lesson learnt the hard way, but at least it was the tailgate and not the back window and someones head in the back seat that had the hook stuck in it.

I've read stories of people getting seriously hurt, even killed with metal objects on the end of tow straps. Something to think about when 4wheeling and recovering vehicles.

I am not saying this because I've never done this, because I've had a very similar dent in the back of my truck from trying to pull an ATV out of a snow bank before. I'm saying this to make people aware that this can be dangerous.

Hope your Trac goes better!

D

Very dangerous, especially with a running start. Lucky the strap wasn't longer, could have easily gone through the rear window.

Saw a similar incident with someone launching a large boat, (25 ft.) on a steep incline using aged steel cable. It snapped, unfortunately a limb was severed in that one.

Glad all is well. Live and learn.

That sux,,chains are better for that stuff, no stretching. Good to hear your getting better,Andy..:D
