How can I open the center nut? Which tool do I need?
If that is the rear. You dont, that is the end of the axle shaft. To pull the rear axle. you have to pull the rear cover and release the axle keeper. Take out the axle clips. Then you can pull the axle, after removin the brakes. Depending if that is a drum or rotor what to remove. I cant tell in the pic.
2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
Yes, that's the rear. I was looking for a video that shows how to replace the rear hub assembly /bearing. All videos that I found show a hexagon nut. I attached another image:
On the gen1 trac. No bearing hub. The bearing is internal in the axle housing. Lubed by the gear lube. Look for a video on how to take apart an 8.8" ford axles. Here is list from u tube.
03 explorer IS NOT THE SAME as 03 sport trac.... you have to look up the right project.... you need to buy a Haynes manual or OEM ford manuals.... Not being a Di*& but IF you googling this stuff, you probably don't have the right tools to do the job..... Look it up first..
Good catch Todd. I didnt' think to tell him, only the Ford 8.8 solid axle type.
