Any one know of a recall on a 2001 sport trac?

You start up in morning cold go two blocks shut off go out again and start and it justs keeps cranking. Put pedal to floor it starts.

Mechanic says it is a recall issue computer issue.

Anyone hear of this?

Early Sport Trac's were notorious for having starting problems after sitting over night. The problem was with the fuel pump. Some early fuel pumps had an internal leak that would bleed off fuel pressure and were hard to start initially. If this is your problem you need to replace the fuel pump (mounted in the tank)

To test this try the following: After your vehicle has sat all night, turn on the key, but do not attempt to crank the engine. After about 15 seconds with the key on the pump should rebuild full fuel pressure, turn the key completely off, and then attempt to restart the engine as normal. If the engine fires immediately, you probably have a leaking fuel pump.

However, if your vehicel starts immediately, but stalls afterwards, or is difficult to keep running without having to give it a little more gas with the accerator pedal, then you probably have a dirty IAC (Idle Air Control valve)

In this case the engine is probably flooded. It is not uncommon for vehicles that are cold started and then immediately driven very short distances and then shut off to flood. The coolant temp sensor doesn't accurately reflect the temp of the engine in this scenario and then when you go to restart it after a brief period of time the pcm comands too much fuel and the vehicle floods but when you floor it the pcm goes into clear flood mode and cuts down on fuel delivery and then the vehicle starts. This is once possibility. Another possibility is that there may be an injector leaking and causing the engine to flood or perhaps even a ruptured fuel pressure regulator.
