My console lid was cracking very badly and just looked really bad too. I went to my local fabric store that sold some vinyl/leatherette material that was very, very close in color to my original console material. I unscrewed the console cover and took it into the fabric store to get it as to the original color as possible. Went home and about an hour later I had the new material on the cover and I am very pleased with the results. The console lid is back on the Trac and looks factory like. Stapling the material to the original plastic console lid base was a little tricky as was curving the lid corners. Bottom line is a lid repair can be done quite easily. (The enclosed picture shows the old lid cover and the new finished one).

Looks good. I did the same thing in mine, as well as my dad. I wrote a project up for it as well if anyone needs it. It took all of 15 min or so I think.

I believe the there's a kit that sells on ebay for like $15.00 with these vinyl replacements. I just ordered the OEM one last year for $100.00 to have that perfect match since I'm trying to make this truck stay as original as possible for the long haul. It's going on 14 years old and I'm shooting for at least 20 yrs.

I saw those replacement kits on eBay, and I was tempted to get one, but I thought I would check out the local fabric shops in my area first. I found the very similar color material at one shop which cost me $8.99 (before tax) for a yard of material. You had to buy a yard because that was the smallest amount they sold. It was way more than I needed but then I thought well if I mess up the replacement I have plenty more to get it right. Overall I'm very happy with the way things went.

Did the same thing when I upgraded my console. In my case the foam had worn as well. I filled those voids with silicone before recovering.

I used one of the ebay kits in my '01 last summer. Their dark gray isn't as dark as the original. There's nothing special about the kits except the vinyl is already cut to size. You can watch their instructions on line as they post the link in their ebay ads, so if you can find a source for the material you can save a few bucks.

Mine had the green plastic inside all cracked up. It finally started to get bad and I JB welded the eff out of it... just like new.

I bought the truck 8/11 for my bday; the lid cracked on 9/11. I was driving around the city aimlessly and came across a nurse screaming at cars that she needed to get to her hospital for her shift. So after dropping her off I kept an eye out for stranded people. Ended up at the red cross hoping to help them drive or something and was given a sign up form and told to come back for the next disaster.

As I was about to drive away, a family of volunteers was outside frustrated and waiting for the red cross van, but it wasn't showing up. I barely remember, I think mom and dad were doctors and all I heard was that they needed to get to Chelsea Piers. Told them to get in and one of the kids that didn't really fit sat her ass right on the console lid. CRACK. Me plus 6 passengers... no problem.
