Parts For Sale My 2003 has died

I just did a rough freight quote for a 450 lb engine shipped to Beaverton Oregon Cost of the crate and materials to ship the motor: $250-$300 Cost to move it across country: $400-$500. So just the out of pocket cost is: $650 - $800. This seller on ebay is asking $1614.99 (LINK) and is...

Trying to install New Bodymount Bushings?

Use fire. My truck has ZERO rust, and lived its whole life with me outside the rust belt, and I had to use my butane torch to get the bolts loose. (one down. Bang that one through and get yourself another bolt)

    Compatable seats

I'm not sure. But either the Explorer or Ranger is probably your best bet. I think I remember reading somewhere that a Ranger owner used Sport Trac seats with little modification. If I am remembering the post correctly, he used a Gen 1's Sport Trac seat, and it was almost a direct fit; he...

    Gasoline Mileage

A dirty or bad MAF sensor can also cause poor gas mileage. Some Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner is a cheap try.

    Gasoline Mileage

That's a huge drop. I have an '04 and get around 17-18 mpg on average, a little more or less depending on the situation. Yes, a failing O2 sensor can cause a significant drop (2-4 mpg). It alone isn't going to drop you to 7. Bad injectors might also be part of the problem. Are you sure you...

    5.0 V8 2001 Sport Trac

The metro Atlanta has emission regs. ...just one of many reasons I avoid living in big cities. But I thought the way it worked is if you could pass their emission standards, you could do whatever you wanted. I learn something new every day.

Is all of Texas like that, or just those who live in the cities?

Well ...a little over 307,000 miles on my 4.0L SOHC and I've gotten the infamous start-up chain rattle.

To close this thread out, it was the tensioner. I went ahead and replaced both. But it was the passenger side that was giving the start-up rattle.

2002 ST Driver door says "DOOR AJAR"

$288 for labor is fair. It's a 2-3 hour job.

Well ...a little over 307,000 miles on my 4.0L SOHC and I've gotten the infamous start-up chain rattle.

It's most certainly an interference engine. If the chain skips time or breaks, you will be rebuilding or replacing it. Many folks make the mistake because, usually, broken chain guides don't result in a catastrophic engine failure. As posted earlier, these engines can and sometimes do go a...

Well ...a little over 307,000 miles on my 4.0L SOHC and I've gotten the infamous start-up chain rattle.

I understand many Land Rover, Mercury, and Ford guys don't like the Ford 4.0L SOHC design, but personally, I think it's a fine engine. If it comes down to rebuilding the engine, it will probably cost me no more than $1200 - $1,500 (I haven't priced it all out), maybe less depending on what...

Well ...a little over 307,000 miles on my 4.0L SOHC and I've gotten the infamous start-up chain rattle.

"...This one time at band camp..." Seriously, I have heard folks that have gone a long time with bad timing chain guides. Unless some of the plastic bits block off the engine's oil supply or a chain finally skips timing or breaks, the engine can run with loose chains. I guess it's kind of...

Well ...a little over 307,000 miles on my 4.0L SOHC and I've gotten the infamous start-up chain rattle.

It's been a good truck. I've no complaints. Still, I'm hoping the new hydraulic tensioners cure the rattle. (fingers crossed).

Well ...a little over 307,000 miles on my 4.0L SOHC and I've gotten the infamous start-up chain rattle.

It's coming from the passenger-side chain, which looked fine when I changed the valve covers not too long ago. It was still intact, with no wobble. I've ordered some new chain tensioners to see if that corrects the problem; I'll switch them out this weekend. Hopefully, that corrects the...

Aloha: 2007 ST 2wd Suspension - shocks questions

Glad it worked out for you. I'm glad you found a good independent mechanic you can trust. As far as the EGR valve job goes, that is one job. Replacing the bracket or anything else are separate jobs. Each carries their own book time and part cost. So, if you're replacing an EGR valve and a...

Aloha: 2007 ST 2wd Suspension - shocks questions

...bunk? You realize you've changed the variables. You've added jobs and parts. Originally you said replacing an EGR valve was a complicated $800 job. It isn't. In my opinion, it's one of the easier jobs a DIYer might try to do for the cost of parts. But EVEN IF you paid a competent...

    Camber Kit ??

I do my own work, so replacing the caster camber bolts is no big deal. I'd do it myself and then take it to get an alignment. Here I can get an alignment for around $60-$70. Hell, the Ford dealership charges $99.

    Camber Kit ??

They do wear out, but they're cheap. You can get a set of MOOG Caster Camber bolts for around $20 - $30. They're fairly easy to install. What's your alignment shop want to replace them?

Has it always been a Texas truck? What condition are the paint, body, interior in? Can you post pictures of it? Also, what part of Texas are you in?
