    Wheel bearing

Well, the blasted thing is rock solid... so ow i have no clue what's up, :banghead: other than maybe a sticking caliper...? What's the best way to check for that, just pull the wheel off & cycle the brakes? Sorry for the thread derailment.

Thanks for the quick reply, Joe! I'll give it a shake & we'll see what happens.

    Wheel bearing

Methinks I'm there, in a bad way. Kinda late to the 'bad bearings/hubs/knuckles' news... so late that the last time i drove the'trac, it sporadically started humming/vibrating from & feeling like it was dragging in the front right. Worried me pretty badly; has been parked since. Any thoughts on...

initial trail report: Falken Rocky Mtn AT tires

On Monday I picked up a new stock wheel as an actively rotating spare, and 5 new Falken Rockey Mtn ATs in 245/75-17. They gave me one full inch of ride height over the stock 245/65 street tires. Naturally, I had to test 'em out on dirt and loose rock in the hills around my small desert town...

    front tow hooks OEM

JohnnyO: From your comment, I'm curious if one would mount the tow hooks at the same mount points as the bull bar or brush guard, or if a bull bar or brush guard with integrated tow hooks would be required. My guess is the former, both to reduce the lever-arm effect and because I don't know...

Sport Trac hauling a somber piece of history

Wow. Nothing needs to be said, but a crisp salute to them.

    cancell

I'd love to join you folks, so I'll keep watching this thread, but I'm in my last year of my master's degree so I'm too busy to really travel anywhere right now. :online: I'll likely just have to catch one after I graduate. Hope ya'll have fun, though! Definitely post up some pics for the rest...

Gotcha, so they just shut down the ST line.:angry:

Need a sanity check re: tire sizing

Hiya! Thanks for the reply, Johnny! Hope you get to end up in the shoes you want! :supercool: I have another stupid idea to bounce off of ya... I'm going to have to replace the spare tire (stock size), lest I damage the transfer case, hubs, my own peace of mind, etc. Is it worth...

Alas, it is not (last I heard). They closed the plant that made them. :banghead: :soap: :smack:

Need a sanity check re: tire sizing

Hi all! I've been reading up on tires, tire sizing (regular & plus), spacers, lifts, etc. It's been an excercise in information overload, but I think I've finally settled on some possibilities and I'd appreciate a sanity check and any advice you good folks can offer. So the current (I'm...

    HELP! Electrical kablewie (blown relay/short/IDK)

Aight, so I've learned several lessons: 1) Like the Ghostbusters' ghost storage, when their isn't sufficient power, all the little ghosts and gremlins get out and run amok. (My truck does weeeeeird stuff with a dead battery.) 2) When in doubt, check the battery... before pulling the...

    HELP! Electrical kablewie (blown relay/short/IDK)

Battery checked out by multimeter: 12.67V. Shouldn't it be reading a low voltage if it's that dead?

    HELP! Electrical kablewie (blown relay/short/IDK)

My '07 4.0 ST was running fine this morning... but when I left work, turning the key gave me: *strong clunk* (starter engaging the flywheel) *loud pop from somewhere under the dash* *fast clicking* (like what a dead battery gives you) When I let off the starter and yanked the key...

Preping the ST to sit for a month... Advice?

Any recommendations on fuel stabilizers? I don't tend to trust Sta-Bil, as it was always bad news bears for any small engines (chain saws, blowers, weed eaters, etc) that I worked on about a decade ago.

Preping the ST to sit for a month... Advice?

Going away for a bit and have to leave my baby behind. I want to get her properly prepared to wait for me, so that she doesn't have any issues when I get back. I know to make sure the tank is full, but is there anything else I should do? Should I top off the tires, change the oil...

WTB: Fuel Tank Skid Plate, Gen2

Looking for a fuel tank skid plate for a Gen2 XLT 4x4. Used (but not damaged) is perfectly fine. I can pick it up if you're around central New Mexico, otherwise shipping is okay and we'll figure out a fair price by email. Let me know if you have one for sale! Chris

Rats, meant to post under the Suspension topic. My bad!

Solid axle vs. independent in off-roading

Okay, I'm confused: Why is a solid axle preferable to a fully independent suspension when off-roading? To my thinking, with independent suspension you gain ground clearance no matter the method of lift: suspension lift or larger wheels & tires. With a solid axle, as soon as the lowest...
