If you are willing to spend a couple grand on repairs you should be able to overhaul the whole suspension. Ball joints, sway bar upgrade, sway bar end links, shocks as well as body mounts. A good mechanic that you trust is, imho, worth the drive. I just had my ball joints replaced...

I'm thinking of buying an '02 Explorer to fix up and flip. It needs a tranny. The Craigslist add doesn't say, but I assume it has the 4.0 V6. Will the tranny connected to any 4.0 fit any other 4.0?:banana:

If you wouldn't mind, Kegger, could you post how much it cost? My '05 needs uppers and lowers as well. Farm and Fleet quoted me around a grand. My mechanic said 5-6 hundred.

I finally got around to washin' and waxin' the ST. Now that I think about it, not sure I've ever waxed it before (I know, bad ST owner!). So I took a couple dozen pics yesterday and put some in my library. Rolling on Cooper Discoverer ATR's. 265/75 16. A little bit of rubbin' on hard...

The original gasket was so wore out there was play in the pipe. I replaced the bolts and reused the springs. Seems to have done the trick. Truck sounds nice and quiet again.

I just replaced the exhaust pipe gasket that connects the catalytic converter with the pipe leading to the muffler. Does that gasket expand when it gets hot in order to seal it up tight? I did just read about exhaust putty, should I have used that? The bolts were rusted so I had to cut...

I just had this problem fixed on my truck. It was a u-joint on the driveshaft.:banana:

My mechanic said it would be around $600. It's something I would be willing to tackle myself. So, of course, the next question is which brand do you guys recommend?

I took my ST to Farm and Fleet to have an alignment done because I was having uneven tire wear on the fronts. Turns out the ball joints are bad. They quoted me a little over $1000 to replace them. :cry: This seems really high to me. Anyone else have experience with this repair?

I've had Gabriel Ultras on my truck for a few years. They've probably got over 40k miles on them already. Can definitely tell they are wearing and would probably give them another 20k before thinking about replacing. I liked how they held the truck up better improving its stance.
