IMO the OEM glass is superior to all the cheap brands that most install. While they all break from a major impact the OE seems to stand up better. If you just have a rock chip that’s not in an annoying spot I’d just have it repaired unless your glass is pitted all over.

I installed mine thirteen years ago, no issues at all. It’s just an option.

Or you can do a wireless setup. I have a transmitter in the back powered by the backup light circuit and a receiver at the head unit. I do get occasional interference from WiFi networks but overall it’s good.

^^Exactly. I can tell you that I changed my transfer case oil last year due to a front seal replacement (a MAJOR PITA) and the original fluid specification has been updated. Maybe it’s a fluke but I feel that the AWD engages much smoother than before.

We can argue all day about recommended fluid change intervals and what to use. Your manual will give the Ford recommendations. That being said, you’re best to change all fluids and start fresh since you have no idea of past service.

A voltmeter would probably be faster than figuring out a wiring diagram.

While the uniside does appear to be available, replacing the entire assy is very invasive, not really necessary and will cost a fortune. Surely you can find the flash process online? Forscan is free and the connector isn’t expensive. You can save the prior program and revert back if necessary. I’m not well versed with the 05 models but I’ve used Forscan to reprogram parts of my 2010.
