    Cupping

I also had this problem with the stock Firestones. Got rid of the Firestones at 30K and changed to Michelin's and now have 40K + on them and no cupping. Same shocks and front end parts. In my experience, it's your tires. Doug in NC

    Are these shocks adequate?

I put Bilstein's on the front several years ago and Rancho's on the back (because Bilsteins were not available for the rear 4x4 at the time). My OEM shocks were way to soft after only 10K miles or so. Been happy with the replacements for over 60K miles. Doug in NC

    Brake problems

Changing the pads and rotors is so easy. You must be talking about the caliper bracket bolts. It is the normal "lefty lousy" and "righty tighty". Just give the wrench a couple of whacks with the hammer and they will come loose. I torqued mine back one but can't recall the ft lbs. I'll...

Replaced front rotors and pads now onto the back

Thanks for the responses. I bled the brakes last January, and plan to do it again this weekend. When I did the brakes I attached a hose to the bleeder valve and opened the valve as I was pushing the piston back. So, no crud was pushed back into the system. Fluid was like new on...

Replaced front rotors and pads now onto the back

Thanks for the advice. You guys didn't tell me that the back brakes were even easier than the front. Only two bolts to remove to take off both the caliper and the rotor! Almost scary how little is hold on the back brakes. All done. Anyone should be able to replace the brake pads and...

Replaced front rotors and pads now onto the back

Replaced the front rotors and pads today with NAPA Ultra Premium parts. That sure was easy! Hope the rear are as easy to do. I'll tackle those later this week. I have a 2004 4X4. At 72K miles there were barely any groves on the front rotors. I could probably have had those turned...

    60K maintenance

Guys, I changed the fluid in the transfer case. That was easy, although I made a mess because I had the drain pan to close and didn't expect the old fluid to squirt out as far as it did. Probably spilled more transmission fluid on this job than I did when removing the actual transmission...

    60K maintenance

Thanks, very helpful. I checked out the Project page and think I'm good to do the job now.

    Fuel Economy

I have a 2004 4WD and average 18 to 19 MPG, probably 75% highway. Don't think I've ever hit 20 MPG. I run the recommended 30 lbs in the front and 35 in the back tires.

    60K maintenance

I have a 2004 4X4 Sport Tac with 68K miles and I'm performing a little bit of maintenance. Do I need to change the fluid in the transfer case and the front differential? I've probably put less than 100 miles on the front wheel drive system. I've already replaced the transmission filter...

    Cruise control problem

Agree with Dave and Coastiejoe. I replaced the switch on my master cylinder a couple of years ago and that fixed the problem. Easy to do, no fluid leaked out when changing. I'd post a picture of the switch replaced if I could figure out how to post a picture. Doug in NC

    Fast Idle at Startup

Thanks for the replies. When just sitting overnight, the starts are normal. Seems that it has to sit 3 or 4 days before the really fast idle at start will occur. Doug in NC

    Fast Idle at Startup

Maybe 5 is reves up very fast then immediately drops to a normal idle. I'm concerned because the oil pressure isn't built up at that moment. Thanks Doug in NC

    Fast Idle at Startup

I've had this truck since new in 2004 and it just started doing this. Maybe I'll go by autozone and see if there are any check codes stored in the computer. Doug in NC

Yes, I've completed this project. Thanks Doug in NC

    Fast Idle at Startup

When my Sport Trac sits for a three or four days or more, and I start it, the engine races for the 1st few seconds. If I drive the Trac daily startup is normal. I'm wondering if an injector is leaking gas into the engine causing the fast idle at startup. Any thoughts? Thanks Doug in NC

    Laptops....????

I bought a very nice, custom built, HP, and had nothing but problems with it. 1st the mother board had to be replaced, then the keyboard, then the bluetooth card. I finally gave up and got a Toshiba. It's a fine laptop, however if I were buying today, I'd get a Dell. All the HP problems...

    Cruise Control

Guys, I just repalced the switch on my 2004 Sport Trac and that fixed the problem. I used part number is 3L3Z-9F924-AB. The part cost me about $10.00 plus shipping. I used a 22MM deep socket and it took about 5 minutes to replace. Easy, easy, easy! I've loaded pictures to...
