Another Ex-Sport Trac Owner :-(

Caymen: Yeah, I know. ;-) Dragon: You're entitled to your opinion, but: How long ago were you a valet? Like Honda and Toyota, Kia has made great strides since its early years in the U.S. Their quality rivals Ford's & Toyota's nowadays. Have you read any of the reviews of the 2012...

    Another Ex-Sport Trac Owner :-(

After driving the ST for 11 years and ~140,000 miles, my wife broke the news to me the other day that she wanted a new car "for our anniversary." I guess the card wasn't up to snuff this year. So, after a lot of research, yesterday, 8/1/11, we left the ST at the Kia dealership and...

    Oil @ 123K

My '01 ST has about 137k miles on it. Still using Mobil 1 5W30 changed every 6k miles with no oil added between changes.

Wounded Warrior Car Show on 6/5 (08069)

I'd like to invite everyone in the Delaware Valley area to come out and support the Wounded Warrior Project at the Black Flagged Racing Car Show on Sunday, June 5, from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. The car show will be held at the Barnyard Saloon at Route 40 & Courses Landing Rd., Carneys Point, NJ...

Try Your Luck-Identify '50s era cars

I got 88%. I was born in 1954 and saw most of those cars at least occasionally when I was a kid.

Ford Backs Away From Electric Cars

That's two smart decisions that Ford has made: not accepting the taxpayer-funded bailout and backing away from electric cars. :supercool:

    Whose Trac burns oil?

2001 ST with "only" 135,000 miles: burns no oil between changes. I've used Mobil 1 since the first oil change, and the oil gets changed every 6,000 miles.

"On" button for cruise control cracked.

Steve M: Thanks for posting that link! The "soft" rubber tops of my wife's Gen1's cruise control switches have been rock-hard for a couple years, making them almost impossible to use. I've been putting off ordering new ones because of the cost. Just ordered them from Amazon. :)

The Debate: Supercharge My 2010 STA or Buy a 04 Lightning

A new Dark Shadow Gray Lightning called to me in 2003, so I bought it. It's my daily driver and the '01 ST is my wife's. Well, except when it snows -- then the L sits at home (it's treacherous in even a dusting of snow). We can agree to disagree about the looks: when the Gen2 ST...

    Detroit auto show

I'm going to the Philadelphia Auto Show on 1/31, something I've done each year for at least the past 15. Can't wait -- I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!

Screeching Sound Coming From Engine Bay

My ST has been doing the same thing in cold weather since it was new, almost 11 years ago. The sound seems to be louder or softer depending on the engine temperature and throttle position. In my case, it is NOT the belt or tensioner, but seems to be something resonating in the air intake system...

    Guess Which One Got Out...

Hint: It was parked in front of the other one for a reason!

    God, I love snow!

You're welcome to it! :) We "only" got about 10 inches (+ some drifting) in southern Salem County. Thanks to the ST's 4WD, we didn't have to pay to get our 250' driveway plowed.

    rear window defroster/defogger

I've defrosted the rear window by putting the HVAC selector on vent/dash (whatever you want to call it), aiming the two center dash vents at the window, turning the heat all the way up and setting the blower on 3 or 4 (1 & 2 don't quite get the job done). It's not quick, but it works!

    Gas Mileage

In mostly rural driving, my 4WD ST averaged 18 MPG for the first several years. Now that it has over 130k miles on the odometer, it's closer to 17 MPG.

    Intermittent Turn Signal Problem

UPDATE: It's fixed! I found the link on this site, http://www.mysporttrac.com/MySportTrac/projects/Steering_Column_Wiring_Repair_Gen1.pdf, for a PDF file describing the fix and followed those...

    Intermittent Turn Signal Problem

Well, that's it! When I put the steering wheel in the "city bus" position, the turn signal works normally most of the time; when I put it down even one stop, it acts up at least half the time. I guess I can't complain that this took over 130k miles to show up!

    Intermittent Turn Signal Problem

Thanks for the advice! I'd forgotten about tilting the steering wheel, but I'll check it out.

    Intermittent Turn Signal Problem

About 25% of the times that the left turn signal is used, it blinks at about twice its normal rate. When this happens, the left front light flashes and the left rear does not. The rest of the time, everything works normally. It doesn't seem to matter whether or not the steering wheel is turned...

EDIT: INFO ONE OF THE SADIST DAYS OF MY LIFE.. THE LAST Sport Trac Has been built !!! PLZ READ !!

As I replied to Todd's Facebook post: In August, 2000, my wife saw this Toreador Red ST on the lot and just had to have it (which is very uncharacteristic of her). Ten years later, she still doesn't want to part with it -- nor do I! Ford had a good thing with the ST -- too bad they didn't think...
