Congratulations Todd!

I know that losing weight is really hard and it really takes a lot of dedication and patience....and it sounds like you have both. That's great news and I wish you much success in the new "Todd Lite" version.

My mother in law had that done (before I met my wife) and she has been happy with the change it has made in her life.

Way to go Todd. I have several friends that have gone through the same procedure and although it's a tough first few weeks, none of them regret it.

will spare you all the Hard work and dedication this takes from you, mental and physical tolls it takes. This was a hard decision for me to make. I was not unhealthy, Normal blood work, No diabetes, NOTHING !!! I was just big !!! I struggled with this all my life and decided I want to be around and enjoy before something does go wrong !!!

That's the thing, you're healthy NOW but extra weight takes its toll on joints, heart, BP, etc. later in life. Seen it in my own family. I'm far and away the little guy, the only man in my family (counting uncles and cousins too) that is under 200 lb. My dad was always healthy too but developed diabetes two years ago and lost some weight as a result. This was good because it took some strain off his hips and knees, one of each is already shot and need to be replaced. Dad lost a bunch of weight and looks thin at 235 after spending most of his life in the 250-270 range. A late uncle lost a leg and I have a cousin not much older than me who needs both knees replaced (although I think being a college and pro football player has something to do with it too). There is a plus-sized family in my church, the dad and daughter had gastric bypass, now he looks normal and she is stone hotness.

Todd Z,

Might I recommend a free resource to help you out. Sparkpeople.com (see link below).

This website allows you to enter your goals (calories consumed per day, calories burned by exercise each week, minutes of exercise per week, weight to be lost over months or a year or more) and lets you track through daily journals the food you eat and the exercise you perform.

It really couldn't be simpler, especially if you have a smartphone as there is an app for that.

This resource helped me lost almost 90 lbs in 8 months, and I have kept it off for almost 2 years.

I once was the happy clown to all my friends, and I kidded myself that my obesity alone didn't make me unhealthy, ...but I was wrong. I wasn't happy and I wasn't healthy and when I lost the weight, started eating right and getting the exercise I (we all) need then everything in life got better. Obesity kills. I believe there is no such thing as healthy obesity.

I was over 280lbs, now I am just under 200 and have been for 18+ months.

Good luck. YOU CAN DO THIS!
