I've never been there before. It was a very nice city.

Great shots, especially of the architecture and the Neckar. I see you made it to the castle. Did you go up on the Heilegenberg (sp?) to see the monasteries and the Thingstatte (sp)?

Thanks Nelson. I was there in like '92, but the photos have gone missing. I wish I had the camera then that I have now. What a beautiful place, and great shots.

Nelson,

Ah yes, that brings back some wonderful memories. I was stationed in Heidelberg twice. Once from 1968-1970 and again in 1974-1977. The last time I was in Germany I was in Kitzingen from 1978-1982. I plan on going back this comming spring/summer 2010 for the Passion Play in Oberamergau, Germany...I may take a Mediteranean cruise to Spain, France Itally, Greece, Turkey and Egypt during my trip their ...Trying to talk my girlfriend into going.

Oberamergau is a picturesque alpine villiage just north of Garmish and is noted for it's fabulous wood carvers and the Passion Play that they present every 10 years. Nearby is Schloss (Castle) Linderhoff where there is an underground grotto dug into the mountain with an indor lakke where King Ludig would have Richard Wagner perfom his famous Swan Lake opera. Also nearby is the Ettal Monistary where the Monks make a special schnapps

Thanks for the great photos.

...Rich

Great pics, Nelson. The place looks like a photographers dream!

I love what you do with Picasa. I love the software but lack knowledge in all the possibilities it provides.

Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks guys for the positive comments. I didn't go to any places outside of what I photographed. As it was, I did a lot of walking and I had a friend with me. His name is Bill and he is 78. He is a veteran and will be retired for 40 years as of Dec 1st. He stopped me in the lobby of the hotel on Ramstein Air Base and started talking the first night I arrived.

He's waiting for a flight to Aviano on Friday. He's taking full advantage of the free military flights offered to all military retirees. I had a free day, waiting for appointments on Thursday, so I told him I was probably going to the Rhein river valley or Trier. He suggested Heidelberg, since he said he heard it was nice. So us veterans spent Veteran's Day exploring what Germany has to offer. Bill is in some of the photos, wearing the blue jacket and white hat.

The day was a bit cool, but the autumn leaves made the photos much nicer.

Nelson,

Trier is also a beautiful city. Known for its OLD Roman baths.

Actually never seen a German town that is not beautiful!! If I had my way I would live there in a little town named Horbach. Like a lot of small towns there, they hand sweep the streets almost every Saturday.

Thanks for the memories.

Nelson, spectacular photos. Makes me wish I was anywhere but here. We're in the middle of a 3 day Nor'easter, so its pretty nasty outside. BUT, where are the madchens? Saw a shot or two, but come on. We need a little more insight on the female population over there!! (haha) Glad you are having a great time over there, hows your daughter doing? Still in Poland? Bob ;)
