Where were YOU when the world stopped turning, eight years ago, on this September day?

i was in school in science class. I am close to New York so everything stopped. I left school and went to my EMS.

From a fellow firefighter, never forget the lives lost. I lost a lot of brothers that day. Remember the 343 brothers who ran into hell.

On this day, I was cruising, business as usual at 31,000 feet, then suddenly DEMANDED to descend immediately and land at Orlando International Airport. Upon advising ATC we were en route to Miami International, we at the same time received word that life had changed, from our dispatcher. We received a message saying land at nearest suitable. Quickly adding the equation up, my FO questioned ATC upon our destination again, and I just told him something has gone very wrong in the US, leave ATC alone we are landing. It has been talked to death, but ATC did an amazing job clearing the skies. That mass immediate coordination was unforgettable. Folks, we are forever changed, for better or for worst, we are changed. Thank a soldier, police officer, fire fighter. Maybe you don't believe in the War, or whether the officer gave you a ticket, or the fire fighter that had your car towed for blocking an access to a hydrant...They are doing their jobs.. Ultimately protecting us.

I had a long break in Detroit airport today, they had a nice moment of silence at the time of first impact, it was very nice to see that the usual pains in the asses, screaming on their bluetooth nonsense, hung up and shut up. Good to see people still respected the tragedy..

I was in an all-day training meeting at a previous employer. A friend/co-worker came in from a break and casually mentioned, "Hey, I was listening to the news and they said a plane had hit one of the World Trade Center towers." No one thought it was anything more than an accident, and the lady leading the class resumed the training.

About 20 minutes later, a second co-worker came back from the restroom. Her face was panicky, and she announced, "A second plane has hit the OTHER World Trade Center tower!!!" Everyone in the room more or less became alarmed as we realized what was happening. Someone called for a TV to be brought in and the training class was shut down.

As the TV was being wheeled in and the news tuned in, the lady leading the class got madder and madder. "Can we PLEASE return to our seats so we can resume the class!!?!??" she said impatiently. I remember someone saying, "Lady, you're nuts! The nation is under attack and all you can think about is this ridiculous training class?" That shut her up. Soon she was aghast at the news broadcast and all of us in the room (about 20 or so) were completely consumed in the broadcast.

Tears and horror that day at work. It was awful.

Later that afternoon, my wife went to the hospital to visit her friend who'd just had a baby. I was alone at home with my 2-year-old daughter. Two jets scrambled out of Wright-Patt AFB to escort the President through local airspace, causing sonic booms which hadn't been heard in our area in decades. Everyone in the neighborhood came out of their houses, thinking bombs had gone off or that planes had crashed locally. In fact, one of our local news stations reported that a plane had crashed in the area, though that later proved to be incorrect. I called my wife in a panic as the local news said they were blocking off many of the streets near the hospital and other vital buildings downtown.

I remember sitting there holding my youngest, scared as hell, thinking, "This is it. This is the end of the world... we're all gonna die today."

It was a terrible day. Anyone who holds any sympathy for the forces behind that attack are out of their minds.

I was in my highschool freshman weight training class. We would listen to the radio and jam while we worked out. I remember so clearly my partner and I thinking of war. If there had been a military recruiter there with us that would allow a 15 year old to invade a county, I would have signed up right then and there.

Working GAP CSSC in Albuquerque, we immediately shut our office down once we heard one of our GAP stores and its employees were in the collapses of the buildings. May they all rest in peace and never be forgotten.

I was in bed nursing a hangover (birthday is on the 10th). NY is about 5 hours ahead of Hawaii time, so the events had progressed quite a bit before we even had a clue what was happening.

Watching the history channel (with a mild hangover) right now and they're running a special on the WTC from it's inception up to the events that changed U.S. history forever.

My heart still goes out to all the families that had to deal with the aftermath of this tragic event. What a mountain of an obstacle to overcome I'm sure...

I was changing a 8' long ball screw in a station on a CNC tranfer line. Boy, I don't miss that place.

Never forget.

I know where I was and exactly what I was doing during this historic time in U.S. history.

I'm not gonna elaborate though becasue StadEMS3's position would trump anything I could even try to relate.

StadEMS3; Thanks for your position and service at a most crucial moment!!!!!!!!!

how about did we "never forget" ?????

after the attack, american flags were everywhere and people joined together and were helping each other.

well 8 years later, with the exception of a few ceremonies on 9/11, it looks like we did forget. :(

We forgot about the attack on Pearl Harbor, why should this be any different?

I was eating breakfast in Sterling, Virginia getting ready for a meeting with U.S. Navy officers in the Pentagon. I was almost ready to walk out the door to drive there when the plane hit the Pentagon and hit the side where I was going to be meeting. My jaw dropped. We never ever had that meeting as the technology I was showing them was biometrics (iris recognition for secure access to physical locations and computer systems) was new and after 9/11 everything was put on hold. It was a very sad day in the D.C. area and cellphones were useless as all the signals were not working or networks overwhelmed.
