My brother in law is a social cigar smoker. He likes to bring cigars to family events and smoke with my father in law and also while playing golf. I would like to get him some good cigars for xmas. He's got a Humidor(SP?) and whatever else he needs already. I could ask him but then i might as well just tell him what he is getting. Can anyone give me some suggestions on what I should look for or a quality brand? Thanks.

I personally smoke anything by Romeo Y Julieta which is my favorite to smoke, right now this is thier newest cigar I have yet to try it Romeo y Julieta Limitada, I also like Aturo Fuente, Macanudo, Montecristo and Perdomo. Perdomo is rolled and manufactured in Miami, Fl not too far from where I live and grew up. They have occasionally produced some stogies that have scored hight in Cigar Aficionado.

Just remember to find out what type of cigars he like ie: very mild to mild-bodied, mild to medium mild-bodied, medium to medium full-bodied, full bodied, very full-bodied. Also don't foget the shape and size as well ie: Torpedo, robusto, corona, churchill etc.

I generally choose mine by the occasion I will be attending while lighting up. Try this link to help you as well. good Luck

this is a very broad question my mother in law brings me cubans from chicago every time they visit. I still have five from thanksgiving i could send you the ones from then or if you can wait till after christmas i will have five more each is stamped henco in cuba on the label these are really awesome cigars when i get a five pack they still have the cuban tax stamp on them . I would gladly pass these on to any member on this site for only the shipping cost as i dont smoke them very often! but cant tell the mother in law that! todd z i think you might actually enjoy these and shipping will be paid by me for what you do for us! the five i have now are a che, romeo y julieta churchill, a montecristo, "very good imo", a cuaba, and a cohiba that is mine! let me know if you want any of these again each label says cuba on the cigar or habana cuba as i read my cohiba! well kept humidor stored and still fresh todd z is there any way i could pay you back for such a wondefull site?

Get him a gift certificate from JR Cigars or Cigars International and let him get what he wants. In my experience, if you ask about cigars, you'll get opinions for days. Everyone has their own favorite. As a cigar smoker, I always appreciate a gift certificate. I can get an old favorite or try something new. JMHO.

If you decide to get cigars, get some sort of sampler with different brands. He might like some and hate some but he should be happy to try them all.

I am a fan of AVO cigars, however there is a very small shop a few miles away from me, the owner is from Cuba and is a true craftsman. When you walk into his shop you can see all the tobacco and leaves and all the other tools of his trade. He makes my cigars for me, it took a couple of tries before I could explain exactly what I wanted to him be hed got it after the 3rd or 4th try...they are a littel more expensive but I don't smoke em everyday.

Is your brother in law married??? ask his wife

j.vocaty,

I really hope Todd sees your message. That is a very generous thing for you to do.

I need to donate or figure something out to show my appreciation too.

Jason,

Different preferences for different smokers and for differing reasons.

When I have time to sit & enjoy good smoke my preference is an Ashton Cabinet #8, however when on the golf course I am just as pleased with a Macanudo, a Montecristo, or most anything as long as its a Churchill. (longer)

So if you want to really please him go with SFCEd's suggestions and get him a gift certificate (will be really appreciated!) "and/or" a sampler pack or two to include along with the gift cert. You will be the "hero" of Christmas in his eyes.......can't go wrong that way!

Agreed. Let him pick as there are so many variables. How does he rate the top middle and bottom of the smoke? Light or dark? 42 ring, 52 ring, etc. Wrapper type, long fill, short fill, robust, mild, shape, press, duration, etc.

I've got a pack of RyJ that I have yet to crack (Christmas time @ the inlaws is the perfect time). I've had cheapies and $4/stick smokes. I was given a couple that were way more than that as well.

Personally, I like just about any box pressed stick, Hoya Excaliber King Arthur and Maduro, Punch makes some good ones, Gurkha, Iguana, and several others. I got some nameless 2nd from Thompson a few years ago and they were AWESOME as well. It's all about what suit your taste.

Never had a Cuban though. Should have picked up a couple when I was in Canada earlier this year.
