The "voodoo" is actually quite sound theory, but usually applied to the ignition system as a whole. The concept of the plugs is that a capacitor stores the charge sent to the plug and releases it in one big lump, not spaced out over a period of time. At the plug level, even though the power sent to the plug is the same as always, that power is firing off all at once, resulting in a shorter, but hotter spark. This same concept is in use in race cars and high-performance vehicles the world over, albeit typically a separate ignition box is used and controls the ignition system as a whole. Ever seen a NASCAR or hot rod with a bright red MSD box? They are using this technology, capacitor based ignition delivery. Heck, some engines require these types of ignition systems, if typical ignitions were used, the time if takes for the spark to start and end is simply too long and would cause all kinds of timing problems.
