Unicorn?

Found what I hope is a unicorn at a local dealership and bought it today. 2010 ST Limited V8 with about 61,500 miles. October 2010 production date, purchased in January 2011 by a local owner in middle Tennessee (no road salt!), good maintenance records at a family-owned garage (where the mechanic advised me to buy it), and pretty good physical condition (a few scratches and paint dings to fix). The interior is nearly pristine. That V8 growl sounds pretty good, too!

It has every option except navigation, Adrenalin package, or 4WD. I’d like 4WD, but the truth is that I really don’t need it in middle Tennessee for a truck that stays on paved roads, and it’s one less thing to repair in the future. Snow and ice is rare enough here that I can get by without the 4WD.

Ironically, it looks (almost) identical to my silver 2010 Limited V6 that I traded in today.

I do have to go back by the dealership tomorrow so they can swap my black custom wheels from the one I traded. The “new” one does need window deflectors, mud flaps, and a front license plate bracket. I didn’t worry about swapping those.

Hoping to start some cosmetic mods once the weather warms up a bit and I get my garage cleaned out.

Wow Duncan, congrats! Guess you had your heart on a V8 all along. At 61k sounds like this one will be a keeper for a while.
Hope you didn't take too much of a hit trading in the 2010 V6 you bought a few months ago. Can't wait to see your mods.

I didn’t take “too” bad a hit. Obviously I’ve spent some extra cash and certainly more than if it was private party purchases. But at the end of the day it’s not an absurd amount, it won’t negatively affect my financial security, and I’m satisfied.

When I added up the cosmetic things the 4.0L needed, a couple items that needed repair, and the extra options, it seemed like a decent value. I also did a bit better job this time on checking nearly every electrical switch, light, feature, etc.

The only things I couldn’t confirm were the trailer lighting connector and the door keypad (no code card). I guess I’ll be climbing under the dash with a mirror to get the code off the electronics module.

I’m sitting at the VW dealer while they swap the wheels. I’m hoping the TPMS system doesn’t puke over the wheel swap. I think if it does, it will reset after a few miles of driving.

Only 61k miles and a V8, WOW..Congrats on the find. That dont happen very often, for a 10yr old trac.

Now that I think about it, I don’t believe I’ve had a vehicle with a V8 in it since probably 1988. That was a 1979 Olds Cutlass Supreme 2-door coupe with a Chevy 305 and 4-barrel carb. It’s been far too long!

Congratulations from another late production Gen2 V-8 Limited owner. Before they changed the FordEtis site access I was able to find out that mine was made on September 28, 2010 in the Louisville plant. Its first owner life was in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Last four digits of my serial number are 5974.

I upgraded from a 2002 Gen 1 V-6 and like the V-8 performance for mountain driving here in the Rockies. It's also great on freeway entrance ramps when you misjudge the speed of oncoming truck traffic!

Thanks Larry! The Carfax report for this vehicle lists October 18, 2010 of the manufacture/shipping date. By serial number do you mean the VIN? My last four VIN digits are 6990.

I may have to make the three hour trip to Louisville to get a photo in front of the Louisville Assembly Plant sign. If you look at my profile photo, you’ll see that I screwed up with my last truck. I was coming back from Indiana through Louisville, and I took a photo in front of the Louisville Truck Plant sign on the east side of Louisville, when I should’ve stopped at the assembly plant on the south side. I had forgotten that there are two Ford plants in Louisville.

The V6 in the 2010 that I traded in on Friday “felt” like it had more pep and pickup than the V6 in the 2003 XLT that I traded last fall, but it was nowhere near the experience with the V8!

Yes, I was referring to the serial number suffix on the VIN. From the numbers, it appears that they made 1016 Sport Tracs in the 20 days between the production dates of our vehicles. They were a very popular vehicle here in Colorado and I still see lots of them on the road - sometimes several in one day. I've only seen one Adrenaline and that was in Estes Park.

I usually see at least one Gen1 every couple days in my short 2-mile commute, more if I drive into Nashville. I’ll spot another Gen2 every week or two.
