Wondering if anyone is or has pulled a travel trailer with there ST. I have a tow PKG.with a class 3 hitch which is the larger .Class 3 & 4 I think are the same but anyway I would want to stay between 3 and 4,000 pounds as far as a trailer is concerned . I would be going Indiana ,Michigan maybe Ohio area no mountain driving . My trac by itself gets between 15 and 16 in the city and highway about 18 ,not great . I wondering if my mileage will stay about the same under normal conditions like NO heavy head WIND ect . But then I would not deliberately drive in bad conditions anyway . If you do or have pulled this heavy I'd appreciate your comments . Thanks . Jer.

If you do pull a trailer, don’t go over 2000lbs and don’t use overdrive. The trans is pretty weak when it comes to pulling a trailer
I pulled a small u-haul trailer from New York to Florida and I only got 10mpg with my 02 with a v6 4.0

It’s the transmission that’s not up to it
The trans was not made for towing.
Read the owner’s manual, it’s states this in there

it does not say the transmission is not made for towing....SMH......... the trucks have a rating from Ford based on the combo of options...

I’m a retired master tech and have worked on 1000’s of fords and many others
I’m a 100% ford guy and trust me on this
It hurts me to put down anything about a ford. But have at it. It may not hurt it at the time your using it but it will take a ton of life fro the trans

The tranny in the '07 Sport Trac is one of a few disappointments I have with my "bought new" Sport Trac. I've always been a Mustang man from way back and considered myself a FORD man too but things about my first and only new FORD purchase have me wondering.
Will the V8 Gen 2 Sport Trac with the class 3/4 hitch tow the larger weight...….yes it will. If you do tow the larger weight (or even lesser) will you end up paying for it in the long run? I believe you will. I have always went fairly easy with my Sport Trac and kept an eye out for the "known" issues with this truck. I have never towed with it.
My radiator took longer to start leaking than most and I replaced it last year.
The tranny had the "bump" issue and it was "cured" after two update flashes.
I also am not too happy that FORD decided not to include a dipstick that you can check the fluid level from the engine compartment or at least gave you an option to add one. Maybe most manufacturers are doing that?? I now have a 2 post lift so it is a bit easier to check but still a PITA!
I paid to have the shitty 2 piece plugs switched out and that IMO, should have been a freebie from FORD but it cost me to do it.
I plan on keeping my Sport Trac until I die. I like the concept, enjoy the ride and the look but think FORD should have had a better package in place before they released the Gen 2 for sale.
Of all the GM cars I've owned (and that's a lot of them) I've only had one tranny issue with a Metric 200 or 400 (one of those, I believe) in my 1977 Bonneville Broughm and GM did give me a large refund on the cost due to a recall of that shitty transmission.
To the OP, you'll have to decide whether as Dirty Harry would say "do you feel lucky? Well, do ya??"! Good luck with whatever you do.

I have towed our 5,000 lb 25' Tolman Jumbo Alaskan Skiff more than 3,000 miles with our 2007 V8 RWD. No issues at all.
I had a 2005 XLT 4x4 V6 and pulled a 23 foot camper weighing 3150 lbs from Minneapolis through the Black Hills and back with no issues, 10 mpg at 65 mph. I pulled the camper on at least 15 weekends trouble free. I own a 2007 now because a deer killed the 05. Clean fluids and fresh oil make a difference.

A V8 Trac with the big hitch will have no problem towing a 4000 lb trailer. Turn OD off. As a matter of preventative maintenance I would change the tranny fluid. Heaviest I towed with my '08 V6 was about 3000 lb the first year I owned it (new) when I moved my kids from my ex-wife's in NY back to my house in PA with my brother-in-law's enclosed motorcycle trailer. Got about 11 mpg highway going up with the trailer empty and 8 mpg with it full on the way home.
