Not downshifting

05 was not downshifting when cold so when I came to a stop it would still be in high gear and not coasting this caused it to stall out.Now it is stuck in high gear so when I put it into gear it forward or reverse it stalls.Any ideas?

Sounds to me that the torque convertor is staying locked up. Could be a solenoid or relay. The convertor locks up to full lock at 42mph. Few other members have had the same. When the convertor stays locked there is no slippage at idle. Kinda like a a manual clutch issue. When you have to hold the clutch in at idle, or it will stall the motor. I dont think the trans is in high gear.

IDK, I only heard that others had this problem. Maybe some will chime in that knows. As far as the shift solenoids, I would wait until you fix the convertor lock up issue. You may not need the rest. How many miles on your '05. Most members only needed the solenoid pack, when they were close to 200K miles. Or bought a used Trac that had really dirty fluid. From lack of service, fluid & filter etc. These 5R55E transmissions are finiky about dirty fluid.
I have an '04 less than 100k. I regularly drain and new filter Every 10k. Also I installed an exteranal filter. It catches alot of fine material that gets by the pan filter. I have cut it open a few times to check it. It is a screw on type of oil filter. Also istalled a dorman 4x4 pan with a drain plug built in, and 4x4 filter. It holds more fluid than the 4x2 pan. Some have had flushes done. I have drained my pan twice at 10k.
Dont use anything but Motorcraft merc v brand. Those of us that do have had less trans problems.

Thanks Todd. I couldnt' remember if it was a relay or solenoid for the converter control.
