Why would a plastic strap be placed between my gas tank and gas tank bracket? Usually rubber is placed in there to protect the tank . My tank is plastic or ABS what ever . I just broke off what was hanging and it was well deteriorated . It hasn't been hanging too long . The remaining appears to be between the strap and tank ,I left that alone . Who knows what that's for?

I didnt mention these strap ends were once fused together. There were no other parts to it . Some straps have ends with screws where you join the two ends together ,this is not the case .It was a continuous piece of plastic 1/4 inch wide.

OK I got it .Just so happens this is the front gas tank bracket . Its doing the same thing, losing this thin piece of nylon strap which is about 1/4 inch wide . underneath looking up at the tank trap .

If it’s only losing it on the bottom of the band and still have some on the tank side don’t worry about it. But if it has just remove one at a time and put some 1/8” rubber In between the straps and the tank and you will be fine.

Thanks . Do you know what purpose that strap has? I 'm thinking I will have to support the tank ,loosen the strap and place rubber in there . What do you think?

It’s to hold the tank up in place. Use a floor jack with a 2x6 or a 2x4 on the jack . As long as possible. So it will put the weigh evenly onto the jack. And then loosen the bolts a little , do t have to completely remove them, and when you have some slack on the bands, just shove some rubber in between the band and tank. Pretty easy. The bolts are pretty long so you won’t have to remove them. And do one at a time. Remember to place a pice of wood on top of the jack so you don’t go though the tank. The rubber is there to help with rubbing noise and vibration so the meter band does not cut the plastic tank

Carlthess40 I cant express how helpful you are to me in this situation and many thanks. This will be Mondays project thanks again.

IMO, it is odd that Ford would use plastic banding for cushion. There may be rubber under the metal strap.
The plastic might have been something that helped on the assyline,,IDK,,just a guess. 'Cause I cant see how a hard plastic material can cushion. That stuff looks like what shipper's use on boxes.

Hey Eddie thats exactly what it looks like . Im thinking the rubber is still in there too. The tank does not rattle nor is it loose .I think your right on .That makes since to me .I think for now I'll let it be and see if anything else works out ,. Thank You .

its just the plastic protector..... cut it and walk away..
