I was wondering about the trans fluid change. I have 79,000 on mine and need to change it. I know Mercon V goes in, but just wondering how much. The manual says 10 quarts as the refill capacity , but ive read on here that it only takes 5 quarts.

should i change the filter too?

BTW can anyone scan a copy of the schedued maintence guide the manual refers to because i dont have one. I had to buy my manual off of ebay, cuz i didnt get one when i bought the truck.

Than shouldnt the one you bought off ebay.com have it? I'm confused by your statement. ANYWAY! you can look at the maintence intervals on www.ford.com

75,000

* Inspect brake pads/shoes/rotors/drums, brake lines and hoses, and parking brake system

* Inspect and lubricate steering linkage, ball joints, suspension and, if equipped, half shafts drive shaft and u-joints

* Inspect wheel ends for end play and noise

* Inspect engine cooling system and hoses

* Rotate tires for optimal tire life

* Perform multi-point inspection

* Change engine oil and replace oil filter (Up to 5 qts of motor oil)

80,000

* Rotate tires for optimal tire life

* Perform multi-point inspection

* Change engine oil and replace oil filter (Up to 5 qts of motor oil)

on fords website it says

"Change automatic transmission/transaxle fluid and filter at 150K" but take that with a grain of salt. I did mine at 60K and I will do it again at 100K since I don't drive hard or long.

Tony, take a look at the project section on the site. I put a project in there for the Tranny oil change and two other's you can do when you do it. Very easy to do. The one about the drain plug is a good one to do. Will make it easier to do the next time. I did mine at 35K. I'm going to do it sooner from now on since I put in the drainplug.(less mess) The 10 quarts is if you do a Tranny Flush which changes pretty much all the fluid. You won't even use all Five because it takes just alittle over 4 when you change out the filter. And yes, change the filter also.;)

James Freeman Jr. do you have a closed tranny? If so ,how dirty did the fluid appear if at all? I have an 07 S.T. with 91,000 miles it is a closed system thats why I ask. I dont put even average miles on mine ,I bought it used with low miles so was wondering if I should change fluid and filter now or wait a little longer. I am leaning on doing it at least before it get's cold . Thanks'

I got my 04 used last year. Since I don’t know who, what, when, where, or how long the tranny fluid was in there I did a complete flush with new filter and new pan with drain plug on it. So now I know.
