I’m sure many people have asked this same question but I haven’t found a old post about what I’m experiencing. Start by saying I’m new to the forum. With a 2008 Sport Trac. 4x2 V6 5 speed automatic.
I’ve been hearing a noise that seems to be from the left rear. Read many post about wheel bearing issues. It’s making a Rrrrrr Rrrrr noise and when I turn to the left it stops also seems a little worse turning to the right? I’m sure it’s not from the front wheels. But I could be wrong.
Thanks very much

Wheel bearing or Driveshaft carrier.... Have to properly diagnose..

I just replaced my front hub bearings . The front wheels can be tight with no play and the bearing be humming . It will hum first and as it gets worst the hum may even go away for a while . The back bearings can be a little different ,you might have some play in the wheel right away and you may also have to have the back bearings pressed out . The hardest thing for me with the front bearings was breaking the bolts loose without an impact wrench . Also the front axle nut needs to be torqued down to 184 foot pounds when finished .This is very critical ,as if it is not torqued properly the bearing will wear prematurely. If my back bearings go I will let a shop do that job . At 74 I'm getting to old to do this stuff any more. I have a 2007 sport trac XLT 4x4

Thanks very much for your help. LoL I’m only 52 and I’m getting to old to crawl around under that truck. Still have the noise wheel bearing seem to be fine. Need to check that saddle bearing. Seem to think it’s coming from the tires...? The left rear is leaking down after a few days and I can see wear it’s been repaired in the past.

That is classic wheel bearing symptoms. Noisy when turning means it is tightening up when turning one way and loosening when turning the other as it slides back and forth on the axel. Sometimes you will hear a click too as the bearing seats itself into the race. May just need a little tightening, but definitely need investigating in my opinion.
