2007 Gen 2 - XLT 2 Wheel Drive - 193k miles

So the past week, I get it started, put it in reverse, and there's a hesitation before the truck engages in backing up. And a similar delay when I shift it back to drive.

I've drove this 120k miles, and never had to touch the transmission on it. Should I get a flush/fluid change scheduled? Or is this indicative of a bigger issue?

If you have never change fluid and filter or flush, your 90k miles overdue. Also you can try disconecting the neg batt cable for 10 min. You might be able to reset the computer controler.

should have done regular maintenance 3 times already..... It could be clogged filter, low fluid, or wearing trans....

Wow!! Do not do that. Smh. The computers and 4wd modules have been burnt out doing that. Just like disconnecting in allowing your alternator to run the car

With everything off disconnect the negative battery cable only. Then open the car door and stepp on the bake pedal for five times. Then wait five minutes and hook the battery up. Then start the vehicle and allow her to warm up to normal temperature. Then take it slowly around the block going 0 to 30 miles an hour very slowly and breaking slowly five times. This will reset everything and then the vehicle will start to learn your driving habits all over again.

I've done that pleanty of times and never had a problem... Who knew?

Eh, just be careful.

Thanks for all the replies. I've got a change scheduled, and I'm getting some local pricing on a transmission just in case.

I've obviously had bad advice on transmissions, one place just refused to do a flush based on the age. I guess some people believe if a transmission goes long enough untouched, you shouldn't mess with it. I'm hoping its something like a filter/fluid. The main issue I have right now is when the truck is cold, I can shift from park to reverse and it'll sit before it engages. It doesn't affect driving, but I definitely don't want anyone else behind the wheel right now.

I would do a fluid and filter change, Don't flush it then your only changing some of the fluid and not all.... See if that helps....Can also do a battery reset too.

I'll do the battery reset at home afterwards. I tried last Friday with just the negative off, and that didn't solve anything. But after the work I'll check out your method using the brake.

When you say "going 0 to 30 miles an hour very slowly and breaking slowly five times." does this mean pump the breaks going from 30 to 20/25, or to a stop, 5 times?

If you disconnected then that's all you can do...... No don't pump the brake, Come to a stop...... There is also while its warming up you slowly go from park to reverse 5-10 times waiting 5 seconds between each. But honestly at almost 200K miles it has to be fluid or internal parts related....

Did any one check the level ????

Service is scheduled Friday morning at 9.

As for the level, I've had it looked at and told the level was fine on various occasions. I think the last time was when I was getting a rotation about 180k. I've never had transmission fluid leaking.

the transmission has a vent on it, it can loose fluid over time, and temperature...... I hope they have been checking it properly.

So my appointment on the 7th didn't go well. They said they were missing a tool they needed to service the transmission. I immediately checked nearby shops to see who could get me in before the 14th, but there wasn't anyone. So I crutched through the week and brought it in last Friday.

Changed the fluid and filter as I asked, and the hesitation is gone, any funny loss of gear while driving is gone, transmission problems have completely disappeared for the time being. Thank goodness.

NOW. Time to find that radiator/line leak...
