So my '07 Trac has 130k miles and I'm thinking the suspension needs some updates. Its fine with no load, but heavier trailers and loads are giving more sag than I am happy with.

I was thinking the following:
Rancho RS5000 front
Rancho RS9000XL rear
Moog constant rate springs
Possibly also add a SumoSpring to the rear coils to help under heavier loads

With the RS9000XL in the rear, I can adjust for anticipated load when trailering or not.

However, what size/model # Rancho do I need. The GoRancho website shows no matching shocks, which I know is hogwash.

Any thoughts?

It’s looking more like Monroe QuickStruts as the best option. It might be heresy, but I don’t want the lift from the Rancho QuickLifts and the price of all the extra parts adds up, since I was planning replacing all the bits. And time is worth something also.

The Moogs WILL lift the truck about 1" and will NOT settle..... Installed about 6 sets and all the same.... They ride good and help with loading, the rancho may be the way to go in the back only if you want a little firmer feel. KYB are the same as stock.

1” all around is what Rancho claims for QuickLift (V8).

Help with loading is great since one goal is to reduce rear sag and increase control with towing a heavier trailer. A weight distribution hitch may also be in my future.

I definitely don’t want any softer. Firmer than stock is good to a point. I don’t think I want it to ride like my other ST (the Focus kind).

So far the summary is:
KYB similar to stock
Moog firmer than stock with raised height
Monroe QuickStrut firmer than stock at stock height (inferred without testimony otherwise)
Rancho QuickLift nominally firmer yet, though adjustable, with raised height

Sound right?

I have read of issues with quick wear on Rancho in other forums, though many of those posts are quite old and may not apply any longer.

I went with the Monroe Reflex Quick-Struts. I did not want the higher lift of the other solutions (Rancho Quick-Lift) and buying the RS5000s with springs and mounts, etc separately was going to be 30-50% more. Monroe part #s 271124, 27115 (F/R) and are specific to the Sport Trac V8 and different than the Explorer (Spring change?). The RWD has a different part again for the front (371124).

I have only driven back from the shop, but it seems less floaty. Some might say more responsive, some might say harsher - depending on your preferences.

Some measurements to wheel arch:
Front (before): 33 3/8”
Front (after): 34 1/8”
Rear (before, “empty”): 33”
Rear (before, “loaded”): 31 7/8”
Rear (after, “empty”): 33 5/8”
Rear (after, “loaded”): 32 3/4”

That’s with factory wheel size (235/65R18). Empty is about 80-100 lbs of crap in the bed and loaded is with about 400 lbs of teenage boy sitting on the tail gate in addition.

Overall I picked up 3/4” in the front and 5/8” in the back, but almost a full inch when loaded.

Maybe this post will help some one else decide.

Good deal, I am happy with mine overall...

2010 ST Limited 4.6L V8 4WD, a little over 81K miles.

My rear tires are getting a little screwed up. The mechanic told me to run my hand over the rear tires and you can feel they are getting a little bumpy he said going to need shocks. I figure I should just change the whole spring/strut/shock assembly. Thoughts? I am not looking for a lift, although an inch mentioned above doesn't bother me. Have been searching around on the net some and not getting a good idea of part numbers.
Any thoughts or recommendations on what to get and part numbers, price and or where you got them?
THANKS!

That's where mine came from. The Monroe have different part numbers for the rear for Sport Trac and Explorer SUV. Can't recall for the others. I did look at doing a piecewise replacement because I wanted the Ranchos without a huge lift. The individual parts cost more than the struts before labor is included.

Regular explorer is different if you get quick struts. The spring rates are difffernt. But the actual individual struts, plates and mounts are all the same.

Yes, that's a quick strut..... Other companies make them too. But you can just replace the Shock part and upper mount and re use the spring. But you need a spring compressor to do it.

Thanks! Looks like the Monroe quick strut is the way to go. Looks like Rockauto.com has a good price too.

Watch the sales and rebates too..... I basically got 4 for price of 3.....

OK here is the latest I found out that it is not the shocks. It is the left and right rear Trailing Arms.
I can not find them on rock auto, I emailed them. I know years ago we had a guy in a Ford dealership that was a sponsor, Ford Parts Fast or something like that. Is he still around or do we still have a Ford parts sponsor?
I think the part numbers are 8L2Z-5500-AC & AD.

You can actually just Google those part numbers and you’ll find the cheapest price and purchase it online. It’s funny I have one of each sitting on my attic as SPAIRS just in case. We do not have any sites supporters or sponsors at this time.
There is a dealer in Texas that I deal with all the time, North Shore ford you can call there and ask for Roger

anyone have the moog strut part # and recommended spring replacement, please?
my front 2 struts are donezo. *have the trux spacer on OEM struts with BTF UCA's*

i would prefer the rancho quicklift but i legitimately have been looking for days and cant find them. sold out / discontinued everywhere. plus i heard from a few people with 4th gen X's that when paired with the trux spacer the lift from strut is only .25inch.

QuickStruts are convenient as hell.

todd what do you recommend? i would like a little bit more lift but if that's going to add to much stress to the CV i rather go with a stock height strut and the the trux.
i only do light off roading, mainly the beach and dirt trails.
i'm in PA so road salt and rust is REAL.
