Well, this is a new one for me.

Get in on one of the currently real hot days we've had and find a black tar like stuff on my hands. I first thought it was from outside but today realized it was coming from the steering wheel. I figure it must be some padding breaking up under the leather due to the heat.

DAMN MESSY STUFF!

You are correct...... many just cover.....

The Wheelskins cover is what I bought. It takes a little getting used to having a thicker steering wheel, but it's great quality and easy to install. You size AXX for the Sport Trac.

I kept getting the tar on my hands all the time so I cut the old cover off. Used some acetone on a few papertowels to clean the tar residue off. And then just put a new steering wheel cover from Autozone on.
