Went to the dealer today for a walk in service.

asked about having the fluid changed in the two differentials, the transfer case and a simple drop the trans pan, change the filter, and replace any fluid that comes down with the pan.

Didn't want to do a full trans flush because truck has 165k miles and the trans gives me no trouble. I believe the fluid in the trans has never been changed and so I don't want to introduce detergents in there for fear of disrupting some of the seals.

Dealer wanted to "flush" both differentials as well as the transfer case. I asked for a simple drain and replace for both diff's and transfer. It was explained to me that for the two diff's and the transfer case to be flushed is less labor/work because they only have to work with one drain screw......

wanted 200 per differential and another 200 for the transfer case. Nope... I"ll get that done at the corner mechanic please......

Just do the trans work and no flush please... "OK" charged me 1 hour labor which I'm ok with but they also charged me for 8 quarts of trans fluid. How much fluid does the full trans, torque converter and transmission system hold?

Can 8 quarts of fluid be in the pan only?

Total fill for the 6R60 is 11.2 quarts. You can see capacities using the free AMSOIL look-up (at amsoil dot com). Use the Ford Trucks category.

8 quarts is the right amount. That's what mine took when I did the bulkhead connector replacement. And the filter really never needs replaced, only cleaned. JMO.

the dealer is a lying A Hole......

the rear diff and T case BOTH have drain and fil plugs.... ONLY the front needs a pump ( $7) at the store and done...

Sounds like they were trying to sell you something like a BG flush. Waste of money and the cleaning agents they use can be harmful, especially if they don't get all the old stuff out.
