Fixing the tailgate

So my 07 molding top on the tailgate is loose, has been for years. I'd like to get it firmed back down.



Now I KNOW you all say "gorilla glue". And I'll take that advice. But my brain won't let me just glue it and leave the open rivet/screw holes exposed. So help me fill them correctly please?



I was thinking they were Molding Rivets: N807673-S

But it's possible they're Inner Cover Screw: W712804S900 or Inner Cover Pin: 389358S



I've checked the board, a lot of people have worked on these. But haven't seen the actual part people have used. I'd appreciate the information if anyone has it! Pics incoming.

Mine has been loose for a long while. I took it apart a few weeks ago to replace the push pins, but they were all fine. I just put it back together. Gorilla Glue scares me, as I have not had real good luck with it for anything else.

Mine is completely missing the pins. I guess that's my problem. I can't identify what was in the holes before. I know one of the parts websites could hook me up, but I hate to order 2 boxes of push pins and not get the right ones.

The trim is held on with Molded little flaps...... NOT replicable.



What I did do for a few years was get 5/8 Dodge Universal Christmas fasteners. I drilled holes in the plastic where the clips were and hammered the clips in from the outside.



Held tight as heck.....



Bad part was the clips cracked over time and you could see them....



I just bought the replacement from ford and No longer close the tailgate with the T cover closed or by using that plastic....

Now weighing the idea of new molding and being done with that thing. I don't have a T cover, so I'm not sure how it came loose on the first owner to start with.

If the tailgate gets shut repeatedly using the plastic molding as a push point, eventually that plastic will fail. Mine did it in the first few years I owned it. I still use it that way. They don't make 'em like they used to!!

yeah, I'm pricing out new molding now. Rather install new and use an adhesive to assist than fill holes that aren't supposed to be there, with fasteners that aren't made for the holes.

Mine is an '04. I installed this wing with 3M body tape in '08. Hasnt loosend despite pushing on it.

Gen2 might be different IDK....
