+1 on Brian's video quality. He does a super job of explaining how to do these jobs correctly. I've got a 4.6L and will have to think long and hard about doing the manifold job. Woof!

Jeff,

Bad performance, bad for converters and can damage the head over time.

Its a broken studs, Not the gasket, or the manifold.

I thought I read something somewhere about the manifolds warping which leads to undo stress on the studs leading to breaking studs.

I will be doing more research seeing how mine of coarse is missing a couple studs.

It would not hurt to have them fly cut or replaced at the same time....

I just hope I don't have to deal with it..... .

Both of my manifolds had to be replaced about 10k miles apart. (Dealer both times under warranty). The manifolds warped causing the studs to break. Glad I didn't have to mess with them. Each time they handed me the broken studs, drilled and extracted, when I picked the Trac up.

First one was at about 60k miles and next was at about 68k I think. I had extended warranty purchased through Geico. I contacted them both times, and they handled it and got it paid by Ford under the Emissions portion of the warranty (up to 80k I think)

My experience was very similar to A1's. I don't know if Ford changed the design of the manifolds to eliminate this problem but the replacement manifolds are doing fine at just over 120k. Knock on wood!

Yes, Ford claimed 2009 and 2010 got a changed design......

We will see..... Blue is 75K now.
