My wife and I just bought a 2015 Ford Edge and took delivery on Monday. By Tuesday, the "check charging system now" light was on and on Wednesday, it completely quit on me. Long story short...dealership said the alternator needs replacing. So, my question is what would you do now? Obviously I am not real confident in a vehicle that I had for 3 days and then needs parts replaced. Should I just consider it bad luck and hope we drive it for 100,000 miles with no more hiccups? Should I demand they get me another new Edge? (don't even know if that's possible). What's your thoughts?

Could be just a faulty alternator. I know I installed a new alternator that only lasted 5 days and then when I replaced that I never had it go out again. I understand your concern though.

I agree w/ Andy, you still have the warranty for a while if you have another problem.

Yep, give the dealer a chance to fix it. Any car maker can encounter an occasional defective part...it happens.

If they replace the alternator, and you have more electrical problems then you have something to complain about. But if you don't let them try to fix the problem, you have slammed the door on any possibility for legal or Lemon-Law actions.

Yep. Brand new cars break too. Back in '62, my brand new full size Oldsmobile (Starfire) threw a U-joint cap the first night I had it. Left me stranded and had to leave the car at a service station over night.

I think the factory didn't put in a retaining ring clip securely and it came off.

Thanks for the replies...dealer replaced the alternator. He said the positive terminal was loose, probably just missed it at the factory, fried the alternator. They really did all they could for us- shipped it overnight from Detroit, came in Saturday to replace it, gave us a Lincoln MKC to drive for a couple days. Hopefully, it will never be an issue again. So far, we love this Edge- much nicer than the Lincoln we had as a loaner. The Titanium line has all the bells and whistles- nicest car we have ever had for sure

I bet it was one of the trucks that sat and the battery died, they jumped it and let the alternator re charge it..... thus Frying the alternator.....

Its not a battery charger....
