Aloha guys, I am upgrading to Windows 7 but don't want to loose any more data than I have to. I am thinking about browser bookmarks, is there a way that I can copy them to a file and then save that file off computer? Also, what about programs that I have downloaded and have no installation disk?

Thanks in advance for your help Ed

Depends on what browser you use. I personally prefer Firefox by Mozilla, and in it you go into your bookmarks click on show all bookmarks at the very top of the drop down menu then click on Import and Backup at top of window then choose export to html and select a download location you won't forget and include it in your backup before the upgrade. If you used an email client like MS Outlook don't forget to make a backup of your emails address book etc.

I agree with Oldtimer. I have not used IE for several years now. I prefer Google Chrome. I know that Google Chrome will convert your IE bookmarks, but not sure about other browsers?

I just upgraded...(Actually bought a new Dell PC) with Windows 8.1 64bit. So far I like it. It appears to be a blend of Windows and Android. Some things are hard to find, but some are more intuitive?

I had purchased a version of Windows-8 and installed it on my little Acer netbook. That took it too it's knees.. It was slow enough on Windows XP Professional but 32 bit Windows 8 was too much. I got it installed and running for a few days but it was terribly slow. Also, IE kept giving me popup screens and made it almost impossible to change to Chrome as my default browser.

Oh well, now that I have tried the Dell with Windows 8.1 I may get brave and try to reinstall it on my Acer Netbook. I think I know what I did wrong on the first install. I am still using my old HP with Windows XP Pro as my main PC, but if all continues to go well with the Dell, I will start switching everything over.

The biggest thing I don't like about Windows 8 is that they have added boot security. On the Dell XPS 8700 I have, it means that it's almost impossible to figure out how to boot from a CD or USB drive unless you use the Dell Backup software. Dell lets you backup manually, but will only allow you to schedule two automatic backups, and then they want you to upgrade...That sucks!

I am using my Macrium Reflects automatic scheduled backups to backup the C drive and the various partitons that Dell appears to have loaded on it? and I use the Dell Backup I use manually to backup everything including the OS, Boot Partition, since that is all that I can use for an emergency restart until I figure out how to get around the Boot Security trap..

In IE click the "File" menu, then click "Import and export...", select "Export to a file" and click next, select "Favorites" and hit next, follow the directions until you note the location of the "bookmarks.htm" file that it generates. Grab that file, take it to your new PC and do an "Import."
