Norm,

I think you put the decimal point in the wrong place....

Regular at Sam's club here in Waco, TX is $3.06 This same price is at 3 other local stations with about 20+ local stations charging $3.07 to $3.08.

Correction: Sam's Club just dropped their price for Regular down to $3.03 !!

It's sad when we get excited about gas prices around $3... Don't get me wrong, I am happy they are going down too. I'd like to see them go down to pre-Obama prices. :driving:

StadEMS3,

Just happy and thankful that the prices are going in the right direction.... at least for now. We all know that they will be going back up eventually.

Looks like TX gas is still about 20 cents cheaper than MD gas.

BTW, some "texan" group has been running anti-Perry ads here (to counter Perry's "incursion") stating, in a cheesy "texas" drawl with "texan" music playing, that the people of Texas have no education, are in poverty, have only gravel roads to drive on and breathe toxic Texas air. Stinks of MD desperation.

I barely remember gas being under 2 bucks during Bush. Remembering when gas was under 3 bucks (over a thousand days ago) is getting more and more difficult, I have to admit.

still $3.55 here in central Pa. down from $3.65 about a week ago. this sucks. im moving to texas. make room guys. plus with winter rolling around gas will just go right back up:banghead::banghead:

KL,

The anti-Perry ads are a pack of lies.... I am not a big fan of Rick Perry, but economy here is better than in most other parts of the US in spite of Rick Perry..

Actually, all of the economic problems that most other states have been going through the last 5 years have not hit Texas as hard. I think it might be something in the Texas "Independent" mindset that Texans "Don't need no stinking help from anyone"

Notice how you don't hear a lot of whining from the town of West, TX (15 miles north of Waco) when that fertilizer plant blew up and destroyed about half the town and FEMA refused to help because it was not a natural disaster? Almost every week I hear some news article that people in the Northeast are still whining about hurricane Sandy. Texans take care of their own, but you have to be willing to put forth the effort to help yourself too !

I doubt that the anti-Perry ads are really from a "Texan Group"?? and if they are from Texas, I would suspect that they are probably very liberal Democrats who don't like Rick Perry's overly conservative view-point....the main reason I am not a big Rick Perry fan.

Unemployment is down to about 6.3 and more and more new businesses are moving or opening branches here in Texas....How much of that is due to Rick Perry? I don't know.

Most people who come to Texas (especially from the Northeast) think they have died an gone to Highway Heaven... I have driven in most states in the US and find the roads overall are much better than most states. Very few if any potholes (because of the weather) and the few potholes are mostly limited to small rural towns. TXDOT is pretty picky about their roads and how they are constructed and repaired.....I know because I worked for a company that did Highway and bridge construction and they had to meet detailed TXDOT specifications. This same company also did Airport Runway construction and repairs, which is even more demanding than TXDOT specs.

Poverty in Texas is about the same as the rest of the US. There are homeless people in Texas just like every other state, but you don't see homeless people everywhere like you do in the Northeastern states...and realize that southern states may have more homeless people because of the warmer climate, so they come south from the northern states...many looking for job opportunities here in Texas. There are more jobs in North Dakota in and around the Baaken shale oil deposits. Up there you can earn $50K a year flipping hamburgers at McDonalds !!! But many homeless people do not want to go there because of the cold weather, and if they don't get a job, they will probably freeze to death!

As for air quality...is is good everywhere. The only place it might be worse is in the larger cities like Houston and Dallas where there is a concentration of vehicles and industries. Those are the only areas that require annual vehicle emissions testing. I think the air polution is much worse in the Northeast because of the population density and the larger cities being so close to each other.

Just for the record, I was born and raised in the Cleveland, Ohio area, and while in the military I was stationed twice in Washington, DC. I lived in MD and VA and the cost of living there was insane...and the military was not paying any additional cost of living allowance (COLA). When I retired from the military, I did not want to return to anywhere that far north. I only looked for jobs in states along the Gulf coast, and ended up in Texas. For many years I used to have a Snow shovel hanging in my garage to remind me why I did not want to return to Cleveland...:bwahaha:

Can anyone beat that, yes.

19 cents per gallon. They cleaned your windshield, checked your oil, checked your tires and actually pumped you gas. 1963 Norfolk, Virginia during a gas war. Before I started driving I saw it as low as 9 cents. :driving::driving:

Richard.....fixed the decimal ($3.09)

Redfish...I don't doubt the price in '63....gas was an average $.30 then. Been here in

Norfolk '68-'70 and '77-present.

Grew up there and left for the Army in 66. Parents lived there until they both died. Last visited my wife's mother there last year. Father worked at NAS and we lived about three miles from Little Creek. Played a lots of golf there.

Thanks for your Service. :haveabeer:

There's a town north of the Twin Cities with a company that does Gas Banks. From what I understand, you basically pre-buy your gas. Some guy a few years ago bout a few thousand gallons when it was a $1.09. He said he was going to wait until gas was at least double that amount before he would tap into his account. I really wish I would've had some money to do that...

I wish that I had gotten in on a gas bank like that too.

The problem that I have with moving to TX is that I'm not a big fan of the heat. Texas is hot all day, every day and in some places it has the same oppressive humidity that's up here in the mid-atlantic during the summer. We need a state like Maine to follow TX's example
