hey everyone finally decided to paint the cladding on my 03 ST XLT. now I went to the projects section already and looked at some of them to figure out how to do it and all. my question is what paint should I use that will look great and last a long time. My truck is black with the darker gray cladding and I want to make it all black. Any suggestions as to what paint, how to, or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Guys.

Here's a link to my thread when I did mine. Still holding up great, no chips or fading and I scrape boulders and tree's all the time out on the trails.

I used this project for painting.

and this to help me remove the cladding to do a better job.

Used :

"Dupli-Color" Adhesion promoter (CP199 Adhesion Promoter)

"Dupli-Color" Bumper Coating (FB105, Flexible Black Bumper Paint).

On the Plastic and Bed liner paint on the metal Running boards

I used Krylon Fusion gloss black and it's held up great. Only time it ever comes off is if I scrape it off on the trails.

Kyle,

Patrick mentioned a really good product to use. I highly recommend using Krylon Fusion over Dupli Color. I painted my cladding last July and its held up great. My Sport Trac was white and I used the Satin Black. The satin black is pretty much a combination of a gloss black and a flat black. It has a very slight glossy look to it. but looks more flat to me. Krylor Fusion is a primer and paint. No need to sand or prime the item to be painted. Make sure you prep your cladding well. As in clean them with a degreaser as that will determine how well the paint sticks. I did mine all for under 50 bucks. make sure you buy a spray handle as it makes the job easier. I was quoted about 400 bucks at a paint shop to do the same job. I masked off the front bumper and rear bumper and took off the side cladding. I have pictures of the project and outcome on my library. let us know if you have any additional questions. just to let you know. once you do this. you'd wish you would have done this forever ago

thanks for all the help guys I really appreciate it. Im def. going to look into the Krylon Fusion, I hear many good things about it. I will keep you updated and put some finished look pictures some soon. Again thanks guys, it was a really big help. Keep Trac'n:driving:
