    Engine Ping

I just changed the oil and used 10W-40 in an attempt to quiet the rattle. It works! I can't hear a rattle at all now. I know it's just masking the problem but since I can't fix it right now, I figure that's better than nothing.

    Engine Ping

Well, I tried to replace the right rear spring/hydraulic tensioner. Boy, was that a mistake. My truck immediately went from having a little timing chain noise to sounding terrible. I put the original tensioner back in but it still sounds the same. So, realistically, how long can I drive it...

    Engine Ping

Thanks for the comments everybody. After listening more, I'm pretty sure it's the timing chain rattle. I have no plans to pull the engine and replace parts so I'm just going to drive it until I can buy a new vehicle or it dies....whichever comes first. I really want a vehicle that will tow...

    Engine Ping

After timing chain rattle being mentioned, I can hear a little rattle when accelerating in 2nd gear around 2400 rpm. It sounds a little different than what I was hearing at highway speeds but I can hear it. Will replacing the right and left tensioners that screw into the engine help this at...

    Engine Ping

I'm sure it could be that (I'm hoping it's not) but I haven't heard it that early in acceleration. Also, the premium gas has made it go away which I'm guessing the gas would have no effect on timing chain rattle. Mine is also a 2004. Didn't they supposedly correct the timing chain rattle...

What's the best way to test for vacuum leaks?

    Engine Ping

Does anybody else have to run premium gas so that their engine won't ping? I noticed the other day after filling up with regular (87 octane) that my engine was pinging pretty noticeably when accelerating. I'm not meaning racing type accelerating either but just with the cruise on at 70 mph. I...

    Towing question

Also, check the tongue weight. A Dutchmen 24' dual axle camper has an 880 lb tongue weight unloaded. The overall weight of the camper is within my ST limits but the tongue weight is way too much. That's without the battery, LP tanks filled, and the fresh water tank filled....all of which are...

    site help

I got it. Not sure what happened. After the 3rd time trying clearing cookies and history, it worked. Not sure by I'm fine now. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Rear Differential

How much fluid does the rear differential hold? I have axle code 42 which I believe is the non-limited slip if that matters. What fluid do you guys recommend? I have 175,000 on my vehicle so I figure it's time to change it. Thanks. So, I got the search to work for me. Looks like it...

    Tongue Weight

Where is your 9' dimension measured from? What's the dry weight on your camper (or it's loaded weight if you know that)?

    Tongue Weight

Scott66gta, how long is the camper you're pulling in your library? How heavy is it and what is your tongue weight?

    Tongue Weight

I'm not going far with it...only about 45 miles. I can bring all my stuff later after the camper is setup...no big deal. I'm just worried about the tongue weight. Seems like tongue weight is the limiting factor with the Sport Trac, at least according to Dutchmen information as even a 3500lb...

    Tongue Weight

I don't really know the exact tongue weight as I'm just going by a brochure that I found online about my model. Well, it's my model number (24FL-D) but not sure if it's the exact line of my camper (Aristocrat). I can't find any information that has the Aristocrat name anywhere which is part of...

    Tongue Weight

Are there any hitches out there for an '04 Trac that will support more than a 500lb tongue weight? I know with a weight distributing hitch most will support 600lb but is that it? I've got a 1998 Dutchmen 24' camper that I want to pull and the only info I can find online shows it's tongue...
