I didn't even consider pulling it out of the water. That's certainly something to consider. My 2001 had 4wd and low range + having a manual transmission was simply awesome for getting out of spots.

I've towed all the way up to the 5000lb towing capacity with no issue over 300+ miles multiple times. If you are taking your time and doing 60 I doubt it will be a problem. Manual transmission Sport Tracs aren't rated for over 2700lbs. I couldn't find Ford's 2002 pdf but here is 2004...
