Saying a fond farewell to my Trac

To EddieS'04. I also like the looks of the Tacoma. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit me. I am a big and tall guy and the seat doesn't go back far enough to feel comfortable in. Ford better hit a home run when they bring out a midsize truck or they might lose me. My personal ride for the last...

Saying a fond farewell to my Trac

Well, after 16 years and over 228K miles, I bid a sad farewell to my '02 Trac last night. She had served me very well over the years and lasted far longer than any other vehicle I ever owned. It was depressing to watch it drive away. I will still lurk here on this site as it has been my...

    Engine temp guage

Might also be stuck open thermostat. At least that would be better that a stuck closed one.

    SWHawaii

Ummm. I was over on Maui for 10 days the first part of August and I saw only one Trac. I wonder if it was Steve? I spent most of my stay in the Lahaina area but I did venture as far a Hana.

Broke a left rear spring. Anyone have one?

Safe to drive? A lot depends on which leaf broke. If the longest leaf (the one with the attaching ends) broke, I would say is would be dangerous to drive. If a middle leaf broke and it still attached by the bands surrounding the rest, then it 'may' be marginally safe as long as you you baby it...

    Odometer stuck

I had mine stick once when I reset the trip odometer and I hadn't completely depressed the reset knob. The trip dials not moving were also preventing the full odometer from advancing as well. Give it a try and let us know the results.

    Michelin Tire Decision

My Trac came with Michelin's and except for one cycle where I tried a set of Toyo's, I have been extremely pleased with the performance of the Michelin's. Over 220K miles of street/Highway miles. 4x2 with very limited off road use. All my set's lasted over 60K miles.

    Steering Wheel Electrical

When I had to go into that connector a second time to re-seat loose wires, I also went the heavy handed route to get them to stay. Instead of the hot melt glue, I used a clear silicone sealant to hold them all in the socket. So far, the fix has held for several years.

    New milestone

Wow! That's a bunch of miles. My '02 has a little over 223K and I thought it was a lot, but it pales in comparison to yours. We sure must love our Tracs to put that kind of miles on it and still keep it.

    I did it!

I didn't think there were any job-1's in 2002. I thought that only affected 2001 Trac's. Of course the switch to the plastic tank could have been a seamless line change unrelated to the 'job' designation.

    key won't come out

My key also is sticky and I must very slightly turn a little more counter-clockwise to allow the key to be removed. I am used to it and do it automatically but occasional drivers get confused and think it is stuck in the ignition.

    New Ranger

If it was lifted, it wasn't lifted enough for the tires mounted. You could hear the tread segments striking the front of the fender lip under certain conditions.

    2002 sport trac xlt

A couple of items that come to mind. Why does it claim to have a new motor and new transmission? And new almost everything else? Why was any (or all) of that necessary? Why did it need all that work? And now they want $8000 and 'must sell'? I was unaware of any 'XLT' package...

    Oil Weight

Looks like that -50c might actually be colder as it looks like it is pegged at -50. Plus I just noticed it is a Celsius display, so that converts to -58 in Fahrenheit for all us south of the Canadian border. Brrrrr!
