Water Pump 2001 Sport Trac repacement tips

Replaced the water pump a few weeks ago DIY in the driveway. Hardest part was getting the fan clutch nut loose from the water pump's threaded pulley shaft. I got an 1-7/16" open end wrench from Tractor Supply for $15. I did not need to grind it down flatter as others have mentioned. Then I...

    whats with the stabilizer links?

"Gina" and India rubber bushings do not last at all. I've replaced links that only lasted a few weeks in my Dodge, complained and they just sent out the same soon-to-fail units. luckily I saved the original factory rubber bushings and keep re-using them as they don'y seem to be wearing out. You...

Nice! dig the spinners on the rims. I also like the color keyed mirrors. I wonder if those second generation mirrors will fit on my first gen?

Third brake light wire or CHMSL wire ???

You may be able to pull the CHMSL and see what color wires are hooked to it's connector that then run down the C-Pillar, then splice into it under the door sill. Not sure if it runs down the C-Pillar or what side it may be on, just a thought. On newer Ford pick-ups they provide extra terminals...

I replaced the passenger side valve cover gasket finally. Wasn't too bad on this 2001 as the EGR tube is on the driver side and doesn't go over the top of the passenger side valve cover as in later models. Just had to disconnect the heater core hoses, spark plug wires, a vacuum line and a small...

I found that Gulf Breeze photo with an image search. There are quite a few photos of Sport Tracs as Police vehicles. My family all moved to West Palm Beach but I was the only one to stay up north. Why? I'm not sure. I like Florida. I'm scratching my forehead now. Here is the driver side floor...

Cleaned the factory mats including giving the edges a trim with a light flame on the torch to get the fuzzys off. After they dry, I'm going to glue a nice rubber patch over the area where the driver's heel rests. It's definitely too worn and discolored there to leave it that way. Otherwise...

    Buying a 2001 Sport Trac

The SOHC V6 is known to have some issues. Just got mine a few weeks ago knowing the timing chains rattled a bit at start up and around 2500 RPM but the price was right. When I change the oil I'm gonna have a look see in the oil pan for any plastic pieces of the timing chain cassettes. If none...

Here are some pics as promised... Took the front door panels off, then removed the door grab handles from behind. Sanded them down and spray bombed them silver metallic with a bunch of coats due to the high usage. Looks way better than the chipped up paint that was there before. Removed the...
