Ball joint angel after lift.

Today I decided to do some very basic measurements on the upper joint. I have a 2010 4x4 4.6.

Adding a 2.5 inch lift to the front will reduce the ball joint swing by 16 degrees. That is a tremendous amount. A 1.5 lift will reduce it by 8 degrees.

A Moog ball joint has 36 degrees from center. The Mevotech ball joint has 40 degrees from center.

Just some information for anyone thinking about lifting their truck.
 
the available angle is great for not banging the joint during travel, BUT its the install height of the arm that allows you to align the truck properly, handle properly and drive safely......

I'm saying that because people will sky jack their ST now and use the Mevotech arm and complain why they rolled the truck.....

So today I modified a set of ball joints for our UCA. They started out as Mevotech TTX ball joints for a 1500 Chevrolet Silverado. They have the same swing as stock. They are a 1/2 inch taller then stock. I use two stock ball joints and cut them open. I used the knurled collar section and offset bored them to press onto the Chevy ball joint. The off set is not a lot, 1/16th of a inch. It should help with alignments. The stud angle is the same as stock. It make this a direct bolt in joint. Much stronger then stock to begin. I used the Mevotech TTX brand with all of it's benifits.

I'll check travel when I do the install and get back with more specs

That’s cool. Hope it works out how you want. I would have gladly told you where I got the the 30mm ( 1+ inch taller) extended ball joints from and just drill the top of the spindle and you don’t need to mess with cutting the ball joints and stuff.

You were kind enough to send me that information a few months back.

I did look at them and they would have worked. I went this route because it is a plug and play, they bolt in just like stock. No reaming and no welding.
Also I am only doing a 1.5 inch lift now. As always, thanks for the input.

Ahh ok. The. Maybe you didn’t even need to change any thing BUT it will align and handle soo much better that you did. ;-). Keep us ( well me) updated. Lol.
