Hello everyone. I recently purchased a 2002 Sport Trac (Limited?) with 4WD. The prior owner never used the keypad and I wanted to program my own code into it. I have the original programming code which was not only on a card in the glovebox, but also matched the one on the module behind the passenger airbag.

My issue is that the code is not working. The keypad works in that I can press the 7/8 and 9/0 keys at the same time to lock the doors. HOwever, when I enter the programming code, the doors do not unlock. Nor was I able to program a new code using the procedure in the user manual.

Anyone encounter this issue before?

Try removing the neg batt cable for a few minutes. That should clear the module back to factory code. If it doesnt, there would be a problem with the module.

Will do and I shall report back here. I did search the forum and found someone had a similar problem, but the resolution was not posted.

Thanks.

I removed the negative cable for about 10 minutes. Did not have an effect.

You need ford factory scanner to clear it out
The code has been changed I’m sure. If you go to a ford dealer they should be able to clear it in about 5 minutes. I have the ford scanner software and drive block but I’m in Florida. Sorry.

One of the switches on my keypad has shit the bed. Unfortunately, it's the one I have to press three times (with two other) to unlock the doors. Bottom line: I need a new keypad.

Mark, Maybe it is dirty or corroded. Maybe removing and wash it with electronic cleaner.

Does the code the previous owner gave you works ??? If so, then CLEAR ALL codes and then set a new one...

I will go to ford and see if they can read it. I didn't believe the original code could be changed.

I was thinking this could be an issue as well. If one of the first three buttons is not working (my code requires them), that would explain why the code doesn't read, but the doors can lock (last 2 buttons do work).

Previous owner did not have a code/use the pad. only code I have is the one on the card that came with the user manual which is the same code printed on the electronic module behind the passenger airbag.

OK does that code work ???

No. The master code (which is the only code I have) does not work. Yet some of the keypad does work as I can lock the doors using the keypad which tells me buttons 7/8 and 9/0 definitely do work.

have you waited a day and tried the OEM code? if you enter the code wrong a few times it locks out the system for about 15 min.....

that's a weird issue unless the wore in the door is broken causing some of the numbers not to work..... you could also test 1 at a time at night and push each one and see of the keypad lights up.......

I will try as you suggest and press each button at night and see if I noticed the keypad lighting up

Looks like the 1/2 button is not making contact. Lights come on with the other 4 buttons but not the 1/2. Next step will be to remove door panel, take out switch and check connections.

You can just replace the Keypad so hopefully you can fix..... Good luck, keep us posted !!!

Just thought of something. Are you entering the code right??

4-digit code + "5" to unlock the driver door.
4-digit code + "5+3" to unlock all doors.
"7+9" to lock all doors.

To create your own code, enter the 4-digit+5 code, then within 2 seconds, enter your new 4-digit code + "5+4". Original and new code are stored.

I have been entering code properly. The 1/2 button is not registering.

I removed the keypad and cleaned all the contacts. That did not fix it. I replaced the keypad with a new one and that did not fix it.
It's down to a wire problem (the wire that corresponds to the 1/2 button) or the BCM.

At this point I'm giving up. Not worth spending any more money on it.
